Piping Lead Engineer shall review Basic Engineering Package (BEP) from client for availability of following information for completion of piping design work.

General Project Information

  1. Project Description.
  2. Project Design Basis.
  3. Site Condition.
  4. List of Design codes and standards.
  5. Fire Protection philosophy and safety requirement.
  6. Project schedule.
  7. Project procedure if any.
  8. Client’s standards if any.
  9. List of statutory regulations applicable.
  10. Drainage Philosophy and Requirement.

Process Information

  1. Process Description
  2. Process and Utility Flow Diagram.
  3. Process and Utility P & I Diagram.
  4. Utility Distribution Diagram.
  5. Minimum Equipment elevation summary.
  6. Equipment Process Datasheet.
  7. Process Critical line List.
  8. Hazardous Area Classification drawing.
  9. Line List with process conditions.

Equipment Information

  1. Equipment Engineering Datasheet.
  2. Package equipment vendor scope of work and tie in list.
  3. Acceptable equipment external nozzle loads.

Piping Design Information

  1. Preliminary plot plan.
  2. Preliminary Equipment Layouts.
  3. Preliminary piping material specification or material selection criteria.
  4. Special design requirements if any.
  5. Piping Design Philosophy.
  6. Instrument Process Hook up requirement.
  7. Stress analysis/ Support design guidelines/ standards
  8. 3D design criteria.

Completeness of Documents/Drawings

Process and Utility PIDs

  1. Legend sheet with information on
    1. line numbering system,
    2. valve identification system,
    3. SM numbering,
    4. Instrument numbering,
    5. Process specific requirement.
    6. Instrument process hook up requirement etc.
  2. All lines are numbered.
  3. Line no. to contain, Size of pipe, Fluid code, Line sequence no., Piping material specification, Insulation/ Painting/ Heat tracing/ Jacketing requirement, Area no. if any as minimum.
  4. Valve and SM identification in the form of symbol or tag no.
  5. Instrument tag no.
  6. Equipment nozzle identification in terms of nozzle no. or tie in point no.
  7. Identification of proprietary package battery limit.
  8. Specific requirement such as slope, spool, specification break, line routing criteria, gravity drain, barometric leg requirement,
  9. Valve/ Instrument location criteria etc.
  10. Line continuation to other P & I D properly marked
  11. Applicable notes
  12. Minimum equipment elevation requirement
  13. Brief equipment specification
  14. Insulation requirement on equipment
  15. Process vents and drains
  16. Utility station requirements

Equipment Data Sheets Review

  1. Operating and design conditions.
  2. Dimensional data.
  3. Support type.
  4. All major nozzles located and elevation/ projection defined
  5. Maintenance requirement if any.
  6. Insulation thickness provided

Other Design Documents Review

  1. Piping Design Philosophy.
  2. Project Design Basis.
  3. Stress and Support Design Philosophy.
  4. 3D Design Philosophy.
  5. Availibility of Data in Line List

Preliminary Plot Plan Review

  1. Functional and Process Point of view.
  2. Man and Material movement point of view.
  3. Local statutory requirement point of view.
