Socket Weld Crosses are used in small bore piping networks up to size 2″, though fittings up to 4″ size are available as per ASME B16.11 : Forged Fittings, Socket Welding and Threaded. They are sparingly used to reduce inventory, and are used only when there is a space constraint such as in revamp work, offshore platforms etc. They are also used to install instrumentation on pipes and vessels. When there is no space problem, two tees are normally used. These fittings are available in three pressure ratings viz. 3000#, 6000# and 9000#. This page provides metric dimensions for 9000# rating crosses.
